Changing the default PDF zoom level

This is a quick tip on how to change the default PDF zoom level in different applications. I have a 27" 1440p screen so I'm using page fit as the value in these examples. These are tested on Ubuntu 18.04 so YMMV.

Run the following commands in the terminal:

gsettings set org.gnome.Evince allow-links-change-zoom false
gsettings set org.gnome.Evince.Default sizing-mode fit-page

  1. Type about:config to the address bar and press enter
  2. Search for pdfjs.defaultZoomValue
  3. Change the value to page-fit

Other values can be found from the pdf.js wiki.
